This unit builds on the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required for effective communication with customers and other staff in the workplace. Good communication is an important skill in any workplace environment. Employees are more engaged and can better align with organisational objectives and goals when a culture of good communication is established in a team or workplace. Furthermore as retail is highly reliant on client and customer interactions, strong communication skills can greatly affect a business’ overall performance.

People who complete this unit will develop the skills and knowledge to maintain positive customer communication at every point of contact as well as establish good communication among team members. The unit also covers how to use questioning and active listening to determine customer needs and to create an effective service environment through verbal and non-verbal interaction.

About this Unit:

This unit involves the abilities to recognise and interact productively with diversity in the workplace. It covers sensitive responses and interactions with all matters of diversity that might be encountered in your workplace, throughout your entire career. These tools will enable you recognise and respect individual differences in colleagues, clients and customers while ensuring any behaviour is consistent with legislative requirements and enterprise guidelines.

People working in the same organisation have shared goals, but they bring with them different skills, backgrounds and experiences that affect the way they work towards these goals. People who complete this unit will have the knowledge and skills to encourage colleagues to utilise and share their specific qualities, skills or backgrounds with other team members and clients to enhance work outcomes. They will also have the skills to ensure relations with customers and clients will demonstrate that diversity is valued by the business.

About this Unit:

This unit builds on the skills and knowledge required to organise your own work schedules, to monitor and obtain feedback on work performance and to maintain required levels of competence. People who complete this unit should have the skills and knowledge to ensure that work objectives or Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are understood, negotiated and agreed on by all staff in accordance with organisational requirements. They will be able to identify factors that are affecting the achievement of these KPIs through self-assessment and gaining the feedback from colleagues and clients to develop personal goals to reach agreed upon standards or competencies.

This unit also assists in recognising sign of stress and its effect on personal wellbeing. It covers the process of identifying the source of stress and where are how to access appropriate supports and resolution strategies.

Furthermore, people who complete this unit will understand the importance of, and how to engage in their own professional development.
